EXHIBITION: 1-31 May 2021, Cass Art Space, Liverpool
Four landscape artists show new works on paper exploring memory and field-based practice in the North.
Cass Art Space, 18 School Lane, Liverpool, L1 3BT
GROUND exhibition at Cass Art Space features new work on paper by John Elcock, Julie Lawrence, Paul Mellor and Sarah Jane Richards.
Working quite independently Elcock, Lawrence and Richards have all made work during lockdown referencing the liminal qualities of the Dee Estuary. Recent work by Mellor references similar aspects of landscape, but based on a geographically opposite coastline, using memories of living in the North Yorkshire Moors.
Patterns of nature and weather based on walking in the field are explored within the exclusive use of paper-based media. GROUND explores what it is to experience the land, and to use this as medium for the work itself.
GROUND is part of Independents Biennial Associates Programme. The artists’ work is produced independently, but included as a unique voice alongside the festival.
