EXHIBITION: 19 September – 25 October 2024. The Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead

Part II of the Material Matters Collective’s five month residency at the Williamson Art Gallery is Chivalry, curated by John Elcock and featuring his new panel painting based on the Wilton Diptych.

Chivalry forms the second chapter in Material Matters’ multi-disciplinary exhibition Into the Wyld which responds across three exhibitions to the medieval tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. In this new curation the artists have been asked to examine the contemporary value of chivalric codes of conduct, in a world where the quest for honour must necessarily give way to the search for truth.

Chivalry features artworks and performance from: Angelo Madonna, Silvia Battista, John Elcock and Patric Rogers in collaboration with Kris Darby, Will Dickie, Ryan Gauge, Piotr Marchewka, Paul Mellor, Andrew Shaw, Craig Sinclair and Pierce Starre.

Chivalry opens on 6pm Thursday 19th September. RSVP to arts@williamsonartgallery.org if you should like to attend and whether you will be accompanied by a guest.

Exhibition continues Saturday 20th September to 25th October.
Open Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday 10:00am-5:00pm, late opening Friday 10:00am-9:00pm.
Closed Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Bank Holidays. Admission free.
