EXHIBITION: 07 November – 21 December 2024. The Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead

The third and final exhibition of the Material Matters Collective’s residency at the Williamson Art Gallery is Spirituality and features two new artworks by John Elcock.

Spirituality forms the final chapter in Material Matters’ multi-disciplinary project Into the Wyld which responded to the medieval tale of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight across five months of exhibition, performance and live art. Spirituality is curated by Material Matters founder Angelo Madonna.

Spirituality features artworks and performance from: Angelo Madonna, Silvia Battista, John Elcock and Patric Rogers in collaboration with Amodali, Adrian Jeans, Camille Smithwick, Anna Jane Houghton, Abbie Bradshaw, Margaret O’Brien, Oak Luca, Niamh Tam and Alice Colquhoun.

John will be displaying a new sculptural diptych Memoriam I and II based on an early medieval table tomb and a section of glass from the annunciation window of Ely Cathedral. In addition his 2020 painting Tree of Life and formerly exhibited at the Wales Contemporary is also on loan for the show.
